Position Summary:  

Under supervision from the Director of Global IT, the IT Specialist performs general system administration and troubleshooting of all The School for Field Studies (SFS) IT issues. This role is responsible for the maintenance and support of SFS systems user accounts, and end-user equipment. This includes maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of school supplied client computers, printers, peripherals. The IT Specialist will work with the Director of Global IT to support, maintain, and build upon our current cloud-based systems. This includes our Microsoft 365 tenant, Salesforce Lightning experience with additional applications/modules, and the Sage Intacct accounting platform. SFS will provide training on these systems as required. Experience in these systems is not a prerequisite for this position; however, working, or general knowledge of these systems will be taken into higher consideration.    

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform a wide range of system deployment and troubleshooting on all SFS issued laptops, local NAS devices, network appliances, security systems, and any other end user equipment. This includes all Windows OS installs, maintenance, upgrades, replacement schedule and inventory, and other general support as needed   

  • Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades for users 

  • Proactive monitoring of Microsoft 365 tenant, Salesforce, Sage Intacct, and their applications and services 

  • Working with our vendors, support and development of our Salesforce database and its connected systems/modules 

  • Monitoring system backups and restore as needed  

  • Manage and troubleshoot internet connectivity throughout the organization 

  • Ability to provide excellent end-user support and issue resolution 

  • Create and troubleshoot end-user access to SFS systems 

  • Research, evaluate and recommend system technologies to support business requirements 

  • Assist in creating and maintaining documentation for new processes and procedures 

  • New account creation and initial training for new staff   

  • Work closely with the Director of Global IT to discuss the needs of the organization 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in IT management or support  

  • Advanced knowledge of installations, upgrades and troubleshooting of Windows Operating Systems, web and desktop applications, network troubleshooting, various hardware troubleshooting is preferred 

  • Working knowledge of web application security, understanding of vulnerabilities and countermeasures 

  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently  

  • Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization 

Travel Expectations: 

  • Must be willing and able to travel, domestically and/or internationally to SFS field stations, as needed
